Working Offline
LocateOps works in the field even with no signal — so you can view your tickets and record completion work in dead zones, and it all syncs automatically when you're back online.
When offline mode is enabled for your company, you don't turn anything on yourself — as long as you've opened the app online recently, your tickets are already saved on your device, ready to work whether or not you have a connection.
Offline mode is switched on per company by an administrator. If you don't see the “Saved offline” behaviour described here, your company may not have it enabled yet — check with your administrator.
What Works Offline
- Your tickets — the tickets assigned to you (and tickets in your assigned areas) are saved on your device automatically when you open the app online.
- Ticket details + completion — view a ticket and edit completion utilities, field markings, and remarks. Edits show “Saved offline” and sync automatically the moment you reconnect.
- Sketches — view your sketches (read-only offline; editing needs a connection).
Offline edits are kept safely on your device until you reconnect — nothing is lost if you close the app, lock your phone, or stay out of signal for hours.
What Needs a Connection
- Documents, the audit / logs / internal-remarks history, and the map.
- Completing or cancelling a ticket.
- Creating or editing sketches — sketches are view-only offline. Draw your sketches when you have signal (back at the truck or office); you can view them anytime, including offline.
- Signing out — sign-out is available only when you're online. Offline, the “Sign out” button is disabled (it'll sign you out next time you reconnect). This keeps your session and your saved work secure.
- Tickets you've never opened online won't be available offline (“not available offline yet”).
Offline mode is designed for one locator per device. Because signing out needs a connection, switching to a different user offline isn't supported — reconnect first.
Open the App Online at Least Once a Week
The app needs occasional internet to maintain its offline ability.
To download offline data, the first time you ever use the app it must be online. After that it works offline — but there's one habit to keep:
If you haven't opened LocateOps online in over a week, your phone's browser may clear its offline cache. To make sure you have offline access when you need it, open LocateOps online at least once a week — your weekly time at the office is ideal.
If the cache was ever cleared, there's nothing to fix — just open the app online once and everything re-downloads automatically.
If You See “You're Offline” and Your Tickets Aren't There
That means the offline cache was cleared (see above) and the device hasn't been online since. Reconnect to the internet and open the app once — your tickets and offline access come right back.
Nothing you saved is lost: any edits you made offline are kept on the device and sync when you reconnect.
Tips
Open the app online before heading out — that tops up your offline tickets with the latest data.
“Saved offline” is normal — it means your edit is safely queued and will sync the moment you have signal. You don't need to do anything.
Draw sketches where you have signal. You can always view them offline; you just can't create or edit them without a connection.
